Description: The place name locations in this data set were obtained via download from the United States Geological Survey, Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) website: http://geonames.usgs.gov. The NJ_Features database version used was last updated 12/1/2017. The downloaded data set was then modified to include only two characterizations of type - populated place and a selection of locale (non-official locations). Thus, this data set includes points that represent municipal and other official government entities, as well as various federally recognized neighborhoods and communities. Some of the attributes were obtained from the GNIS download; others were added or calculated from other sources. By default this layer is colorless in the map service.
